A Day In the Life

I strapped my camera to my wrist today with the intent of capturing day in the life of Mercy.  The pictures unfold the stories...

Good Morning

Bath Time (notice her hair disappears when wet)

Brushing her teeth or eating the toothpaste?

Eating eggs all by  myself.

Speech Therapy with Miss Joan

I DID IT!!!

"Brown Bear Brown Bear What Do You See?"

Singing into her Leap Frog Jr.  (Gail Reinford this one is for you!)

Play-date with my friend Jayne

Mercy and Jayne in deep chatter

This hand suddenly appears under the crack of the door every single time mommy goes to the bathroom!

Mercy found her lollipop that she was told needed to wait until after lunch.  Lacey wanted in on it.

Helping mommy do laundry

All empty, time to close the door.

Unfolding a basket of folded laundry

Showing Mommy where she put my coffee mug!!!

Decided the dog crate was a good place for her high chair tray.

Dog food, yum yum!

Climbing the outside of the steps since the gate is blocking access.

Getting ready to chuck her school bus in anger.

Nap Time!!!

Ah, sweet moment.

Every nap and bedtime she puts her hand up to the side of the crib and I have to poke it.  We do this repeatedly for anywhere from 10 - 45 minutes and then she takes a deep breath, rolls over and goes to sleep

These photos truly were taken all in one day.  We had a wardrobe change that occurred between the finger poke and her falling asleep.  Why, you ask?  Because she had a meltdown over her 3/4 length sleeves!  So I changed her shirt and she drifted to sleep.

Dream land in her long sleeve shirt.

Waiting for her siblings school bus to arrive

Feeding her brother

Getting into her brothers homework

She empties the entire container of baby wipes EVERY.  SINGLE.  DAY.   Today she actually snook it from the family room into the living room before emptying the contents.

Did you know it's a law that you CANNOT keep shoes on in the car?  At least Mercy thinks so.

Tossing her shoe into the backseat

Walking to the park

Climbing

Success (with a little help)

Big Brother Mason taking her up to go on the slide

Deciding she wants to try the steps herself.

So glad I have a big sister to carry me.  Phew, I'm exhausted.
Taking her glasses off in the car.  Notice the shoes are missing too...again!

Found a bag of potatoes to get into.

My night ended with taking a trip back to the library to find this!  She will not keep them on her feet in the car and one escaped the van and was left behind.  Thank God it was still there when I went back.

I no longer wonder why I am so tired at the end of the day.  This was actually a really good day!!!  But I'm beat anyway.

  1. It was a good day. So glad we could be just a small part of it.

I love those pics of Mercy and Jayne together. I may have to borrow, if that is okay?

I hope you slept good, yourself, last night. ;)

  3. Jane,

So interesting to see how Mercy is doing and how big she is! Leah is so much more delayed then Mercy for sure. She doesn't do half of what Mercy does, so fascinating to see the differences in kids! Leah turned 3 today and can wear as small as 18-24 month clothing and some 2T and 3T clothing if it's cut slimmer. She really is following my boys weight/ height down to the ounce at that age! Just crazy , plus she acts like both of them too! So weird! And to top it off my boys so love Leah, adore her so it's cute to watch! Well got to run, we are still praying for your family and So love to see your updates! :-)

    1. Lisa remember Mercy did none of this when we first got home. She couldn't walk, eat with a spoon or fork, she didn't know how to play. I remember in those early days going to the park and leaving so discouraged thinking "will she ever be able to enjoy a playground for all that it is?" This day that I recorded in pictures was the very first time she tried to climb the equipment! It was so exciting. Wait and be in awe of how far Leah will be in another 3 months. Your love and attention will transform her! It's what God does to us!!!

    2. We know Leah will do more as time goes on, no doubt there, she has made tremendous progress so far.
:-). With Leah, her delays are not so much physical, she can climb easily, etc.... Hers are eating and talking mostly. I am so so happy to see Mercy do so much because she is a glowing example of what a family and attention, therapies can do for a child. Leah isn't doing half of what Mercy is doing but in time she will. Its just so nice to see another child progressing and doing so well! :-) My oldest is similar to Leah as it took him a long long time to do what other kids did. He hit all his milestones on time and even early, but he was tiny, very immature, out of sync socially and acted years younger. He could speak with large words, solve complicated mazes in seconds, write in cursive but could not do simple things like print his name or Relate to kids his age. For us , the thing that helped most was our youngest who coached our oldest throughout life. They were in the same classroom in school and again, the progress of him was amazing!!! Now, it's so cute to watch our youngest son work the same with Leah so we know she will come along in time. Just know, from our oldest how long it will take her to get there. Kids on the spectrum really take their time in growth. Most of these kids go along and know/ do nothing for a long long long time and then suddenly do it all in one day, just crazy! Kids always are amazing and do things when they are ready!!! Just so curious to see what she does in the coming months! :-)
