Prayer is needed

While we love how things went on our Gotcha Day and we have been thoroughly enjoying our Asian princess, she is struggling as time goes by.  The great part about Mercy having been loved is that she also loved back.  The "honeymoon" period is slowly wearing off and she is getting homesick.  She has been struggling this afternoon with obvious grief and it is so hard to watch her work through it.  She has gone from taking every kiss and snuggle we give her to pushing our hands away and crying and screaming.  She had a long crying spell where she just sat on the floor in a loud wale combined with soft gurgles and it was so sad to watch her struggle this way.  There was nothing we could do to distract, redirect or comfort her.  She is only two and she just needed to get it out.  She has come around since then and is playing and smiling again, but we know that once is probably not done.  We are expecting to see more.  Please pray for our girl.  She has endured so much in the past 24 hours and she has a "family" at her orphanage that she is missing.

We also need prayer for this Thursday morning, which is your Wednesday evening.  We have to be out of our hotel at 6:30am, when we couldn't even make it to breakfast by 10am today.  We have to take the train again to the capital of Hebei.  We have an appointment at the civil affairs office at 10am to finalize her adoption in province.  Please pray that we are able to get a good nights sleep, be ready to go on time and that the appointment goes well.  At the end of it we can officaially declare Mercy as ours.  Our other concern with this appointment is that the director of her orphanage will also be in attendance. It is highly likely a few of the nannies will come along so they can see her one last time too.  This is great for them, but for us it could make things rather challenging.  It may be harder for Mercy to see them one more time when she is grieving their absence now.  All the bonding and comforting we are doing now and then she gets to see them again and who knows what that will do to her hurting heart.  We are asking that you cover the whole day in prayer.  Pray for our travel, pray for our appointment and pray that her orphanage staff see that she is attaching well to us and pray that this second goodbye to those she loved doesn't set her back from the progress we have made so far.  She is finally in our arms, but don't stop praying because this process isn't over yet!  Love and miss you all.

  1. This is definitely the hard part of adoption, isn't it? You are wise to let her grieve, it is so sad and awful to watch but so very necessary. I am praying for you all, without ceasing!

  5. Once you get off the train, it won't be crowded. Going down a ramp, you will merge with a sea of people. Think sardines. All will be fine. People there are used to it. We aren't.
The civil affairs building and office in the capital aren't much to look at (other than the ornamental dragon in the entrance). You may sit in the hall for a few minutes upstairs, but you will get into a conference room before long. Paperwork will go smoothly. May take a while to get through, but this is a GOOD thing. They are making sure everything is done. Hope you get our guide. Talkative fellow but got the job done. If you spend lunch there in Shijiazhuang, ask for the pizza place. Don't think it was far from the CA office. Buffet pizza. Juices are available too.
It's all worth this craziness. God is good. You are holding the proof! You will persevere.
